I am pleased that testimonials credit my good rapport with clients charged with criminal offences and my skills in explaining complex issues well. In particular, the plaudits I have for a powerful advocacy style, knowing my clients’ cases inside out and a good analytical ability have been key to my busy criminal law practice.
A Keble College, Oxford law student, I’ve been a barrister for nearly 25 years – since 1994 – and was made Queens Counsel (QC) in 2016. I was appointed to the UK Attorney General’s List of Special Advocates in 2005 and was made a part time Judicial Recorder in 2009, and am now also authorised to sit as a judge of cases involving serious sexual allegations.
I defend cases of murder and other offences involving death, serious violent and sexual offences, fraud and deception cases, money laundering and drugs importation/conspiracy cases, as well as all offences across the criminal spectrum.
My recent experience, especially since taking Silk in 2016, has included cases involving death and serious injury to very young children, requiring detailed knowledge of complex and highly specialist areas of medical science. I have experience in cases involving child cruelty and the ill treatment and neglect of elderly and vulnerable adults, often with mental health and capacity issues, and have been involved in teaching advocates on how best to deal with such witnesses in court and throughout the case.
I have nearly 25 years experience in defending serious and historical sexual allegations in combination with more recent predatory sexual assaults and rape cases as well as cases involving indecent images of children downloaded from the internet. I have therefore built up particular knowledge and expertise in computer and internet evidence and its presentation in a criminal trial.
