Before becoming a barrister, I spent two years in the family law departments of reputable solicitors firms. During this time I assisted a wide variety of clients in all areas of family law and developed a sensitive approach to the problems that are often faced by people who need representation within the family justice system.
I’m regularly instructed on behalf of parents, children, extended family members and interveners in public law children matters. In particular, I’ve helped people in emergency contested applications where a Local Authority seeks the removal of a child; applications under s34(4) and s38(6) Children Act 1989; fact finding hearings where sexual, physical or emotional abuse is alleged; cases where non-accidental injuries are suspected; cases concerning alleged neglect; placement order and adoption proceedings; Special Guardianship and Wardship applications; cases with an international dimension; cases concerning parents or children with Special Educational Needs, cognitive impairment or capacity issues; cases where drug and alcohol abuse or mental health concerns are a significant issue and Secure Accommodation Orders.
I’m also able to help individuals in cases in the Court of Protection. The Court of Protection is a specialist court which makes decisions about an individual’s health, wealth, financial affairs or property if they lack the capacity to make those decisions themselves. It’s there to safeguard vulnerable people.
Finally, I’m often instructed in financial claims following the breakdown of a marriage from child maintenance claims to inheritance.
