I became a barrister in 2018.
Before becoming a barrister, I was a Visiting Law Lecturer at the University of Westminster where I taught first year degree students.
I am hardworking, thorough and adept at explaining complex law in straightforward terms. This is reflected in comments from solicitors such as “a huge thank you for everything you have done on this case which went far and beyond” and comments from judges about my advocacy as “helpful” and “extremely clear.”
I have a busy practice handling both health and welfare and property and affairs cases and am regularly instructed by private individuals on a direct access basis.
My experience in judicial review and family has contributed to making me a thoughtful and effective advocate who helps find acceptable solutions to parties’ strongly held but conflicting views.
Court of Protection (health and welfare)
I am experienced in Court of Protection matters relating to capacity to consent to sexual relations and to marriage.
I also have experience in cases involving Deprivation of Liberty Orders including cases involving young people at risk of exploitation from their involvement with County Lines.
My cases also cover forced marriage protection orders and where a young adult with significant health needs should be educated.
Court of Protection (property and affairs)
I also have experience representing clients in Property and Affairs matters involving allegations of dissipation of assets, conflicting capacity evidence, applications to appoint a deputy and disputes around enduring or lasting powers of attorney.
I am also frequently instructed in matters complicated by the involvement of trusts, disputed wills and complex business and land ownership arrangements.
Inherent Jurisdiction of the High Court, or Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults and Children
I am regularly instructed in cases involving the inherent jurisdiction of the High Court often related to issues of deprivation of liberty in cases involving a young person’s drug abuse, exploitation or involvement in organised crime.
With a Master of Laws (LLM) in public law, I am well placed to consider challenges against the decisions of local authorities (including judicial reviews and claims under the Human Rights Act 1998).
Medical Treatment
I regularly accept instructions surrounding medical treatment. I am highly experienced in f best interests decisions concerning addiction, rehabilitation and the way in which medication should be administered. I am often representing family members in these cases on a direct access basis.
My education law practice, in the context of secondary schools, has seen me successfully represent children who were appealing the decision to exclude them from their school under the Education Act 2002.
In Higher Education, I am experienced in advising students and universities on student disciplinaries, contractual disputes and governance (including of Students’ Unions).
I am experienced in appeals to the SEND Tribunal, often relating to Education, Health and Care Plans.
I am often asked to advise on safeguarding issues at schools and by teachers.
My family law practice covers public law and safeguarding issues including child social care. My background in this area of family disputes is complemented by my expertise in education law and the Court of Protection.
With a Master of Laws (LLM) in public law, I am well placed to advise you on the decisions of local authorities (including judicial reviews and claims under the Human Rights Act 1998).
This sees me represent parents, wider relatives (including prospective guardians) and children who are involved in care proceedings.
I have experience in dealing with a range of abuse allegations, including assisting on a two-week fact finding hearing which involved catastrophic injury to a child consistent with shaking. I also have experience in cases involving the inherent jurisdiction of the High Court often related to issues of forced marriage, deprivation of liberty and secure accommodation orders.
I am regularly instructed to successfully challenge decisions made by public bodies relating to adult social care, child social care and education law (including SEND provision, school exclusions, safeguarding and other regulatory matters including licensing by Ofsted).
I have acted as junior counsel team in a major public inquiry, so understand the Inquiries Act 2005, the Inquiry Rules 2006, Rule 9 drafting and complex document management.
