How much experience do you have? I have more than 10 years’ experience as a barrister and army Non-Commissioned Officer, with particular expertise in military and policing law and activities. He was in UK airborne forces, deployed in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He worked in various roles including IED search and mentoring of local police in team leader roles.
Kim is qualified to accept instructions directly from members of the public and professional clients under the Direct Public Access scheme.
I am one of the few members of the Bar authorised, by the Bar Standards Board, to conduct litigation.
A former serviceman, I now advise military personnel on their disciplinary hearings and any criminal indictments.
I advise and appear in Court Martial hearings, including recently before the newly legislated six-member Court Martial board, and a three-day summary Appeals Court case.
I understand the military’s unique employment, disciplinary and injury protocols and practices and associated military terminology. I am acutely aware of the career and life consequences faced by Service personnel in these court cases.
I was regularly instructed by a large police authority client during my pupillage, meaning I have a true understanding of the needs of these publicly-funded organisations.
I undertake a wide range of civil work on behalf of individual police personnel and various Police Authorities, including applications arising from anti-social behaviour, Closure Orders, Proceeds of Crime, and, under the old legislation, Sexual Offences, Prevention Orders, Risk of Sexual Harm Orders and Foreign Travel Orders.
I also defend the police against allegations of officers’ misconduct and undertake disciplinary work, acting for individual police officers and regional Police Authorities.
I also provide expert advice and advocacy in relation to the full range of driving offences including speeding, dangerous and careless driving (including where death or serious injury arises), alcohol and drug related driving offences, failing to provide and failing to stop.
As a busy personal injury barrister, I have been involved in a number of inquests on behalf of military personnel, families and other interested parties who are involved in Coroner’s Court cases.
