I am a regulatory barrister specialising in professional discipline, regulation and sport.
I have five years of experience as Head of Legal at Sport England, a national sport funding organisation. While at Sport England, I advised and worked on complex, high-profile sporting matters involving the National Governing Bodies of Sport. A particular highlight was leading Sport England’s role in the commissioning of the Whyte Review into allegations of abuse within the sport of gymnastics. My sports law practice now focuses on safeguarding proceedings.
My professional discipline and regulatory practice spans the range of professions, organisations and regulators. I regularly advise on and appear in matters before the General Dental Council, the Healthcare Professions Council, the Nursing and Midwifery Council, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, the Association of Accounting Technicians, the General Pharmaceutical Council, and the Farriers Registration Council. I also appear regularly before the First Tier Tribunal (Care Standards) in Ofsted and CQC appeals and am instructed in statutory appeals in the High Court.
I have a busy professional discipline practice with a particular focus on healthcare and education. I have advised and represented professionals, organisations and regulators before a wide range of regulatory tribunals.
I regularly advise childcare providers at risk of cancellation and suspension following serious allegations being raised against them.
I have a particular skill for managing complex cases, involving large volumes of evidence, and pride myself on my careful case preparation, impactful advocacy and approachable style.
Having spent four years in my earlier career seconded to and working as an in-house lawyer at the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), I hold a deep understanding of professional disciplinary work. I have appeared in countless hearings before panels, spanning a broad range of complex, multi-handed, and high-profile cases. I appeared regularly in the High Court, defending statutory appeals as well as arguing for extensions of interim orders.
Through my work at Sport England and my safeguarding practice at 3PB, I have developed an in depth understanding of safeguarding in sport.
I have a keen appreciation of the sporting landscape and have advised and represented National Governing Bodies at hearings and appeals in serious safeguarding matters.
I am a member of the Sports Resolutions Panel of Arbitrators and National Safeguarding Panel.
I have extensive experience of sports governance and safeguarding, having overseen and advised on reviews of NGBs in my time at Sport England.
I worked closely with sports organisations who had received allegations of safeguarding breaches as well as serious complaints about their policies and procedures.
