How much experience do you have in this area?

I qualified as a barrister in 2000 and was appointed a Deputy District Judge in 2019.

Legal Expertise

My main area of practice lies within financial cases. My expertise covers financial remedies on divorce or dissolution, cohabitation/co-owner disputes under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996 and financial provision for children under Schedule 1 of the Children Act 1989. Most of my cases feature at least one of the following factors:

  • Family / other businesses
  • Large pension funds, particularly military or other public sector pensions
  • Non-disclosure
  • Inherited wealth
  • Non-matrimonial property
  • Family trusts
  • Intervening third party interests
  • Variation applications
  • Enforcement
  • Assets outside the jurisdiction
  • Court of Protection applications in relation to property and affairs.

I am also frequently instructed in private children law cases. My experience in these cases include applications for child arrangements orders (formerly known as custody/access and then residence/contact), specific issue orders (e.g. relocation, schooling, change of name) and prohibited steps orders (e.g. preventing a relocation/holiday, preventing contact). One or more of the following features are often involved in my cases:

  • Internal or external relocation
  • Living and contact arrangements
  • Entrenched/intractable disputes
  • Findings of fact hearings in domestic abuse cases.
