I am a highly experienced commercial disputes specialist who helps SME directors, business owners as well as celebrities and athletes and sportsmen and women with your contractual disputes, media and licensing/merchandising contracts and in cases where your reputation and future career is being sullied on social or mainstream media.
I look to understand what you want to get from the negotiations to give you the right result – and to meet your objectives – from the dispute. The outcome sought and won by me for you is typically in the form of financial compensation, renegotiation or conclusion of contracts, rights to return to work, apologies in court and removing defamatory remarks from social media.
I act both for and against a variety of professionals and sports people in disciplinary and regulatory tribunals. My expertise includes specialist contractual advice for sports people & bodies, representation of sports people at disciplinary tribunals, the resolution of sporting disputes and expertise in early stage advice in all potential proceedings. I’ve also acted as Disciplinary Officer for the British Amateur Gymnastics Association.
My practice covers all aspects of employment law in the Tribunal, the High Court and County Court. I’ve represented employers, including multi-national companies, Government agencies and small businesses, in cases of alleged unfair and constructive dismissal, discrimination, TUPE and all other areas of employment law.
I undertake a significant amount of work for claimants, often under the Direct Public Access scheme. Direct Public Access Scheme work is also undertaken for employers, and I’ve seen many cases from start to finish, including successfully defending the dismissal of a claim in the Employment Appeal Tribunal.
I have extensive experience of drafting policies and procedures, compromise agreements and COT3 settlements and regularly advise on the employment issues surrounding the sale or purchase of businesses. I also have a particular interest and experience in discrimination cases, having represented both employers and employees extensively in matters of sex, race, religious, age and disability discrimination.
I appear in regulatory proceedings in front of professional organisations such the Health Professions Council. I’m also on the barrister panel of ELAAS (the Employment Lawyers Appeals Advice Scheme) which is a service offering pro bono employment law advice to appellant and respondents where there is a preliminary hearing in the EAT with no previous legal representation on record.
Finally, I’m a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and I’m happy to be appointed as an arbitrator in employment, and commercial disputes.
