How much experience do you have in this area?

I have nearly 10 years experience of representing clients in tribunal and have appeared several times in the appeal tribunal. I am on the Attorney General’s list of approved counsel and so I regularly act for various Government departments. I also sit as part of a panel to determine disciplinary matters for the police.

How would you describe your approach to working with clients?

I tend to have an initial call or conference with every new client so I can forge a professional relationship and properly understand their needs, concerns and desires. Since every client is different I look to work collaboratively with them to identify how best we can utilise my experience and expertise to provide a bespoke package of support for them.

Legal Expertise

My expertise in the field of ‘employment law’ is wide ranging but by way of example I regularly handle cases in the following areas:

  • Unfair dismissal (whether automatic, ordinary or constructive)
  • Redundancy (payments and unfair redundancy dismissals)
  • Wrongful dismissal
  • Wages (bonus, commission, share options, unlawful deduction of wages etc.)
  • Breach of contract
  • Holiday pay
  • Discrimination (on all grounds and in all forms under the Equality Act 2010)
  • Victimisation
  • Maternity (claims, entitlement and protections)
  • Part time and flexible working
  • Whistleblowing (claims involving protected disclosures).
  • Equal pay
  • TUPE.

In addition to providing the traditional services of legal advice, drafting and representation when a claim has arisen, I have with increasing frequency, been undertaking work either before or at the early stages of a dispute arising. For example I have provided both training packages and advice on internal policies and best practice in handling grievance and disciplinary hearings. I have also been asked to chair independent investigations (such as whistleblowing) and disciplinary hearings for employers. I regularly appear for both employees and employers at judicial mediations and I advise on the negotiation and drafting of settlement agreements.

I frequently provide training to solicitors, HR professionals and businesses on the latest developments in employment law as well as specific areas of interest or concern. I seek to provide a tailored and interactive approach to any training I give to ensure that it provides real value to and engagement from the attendees. Recent examples include mock disciplinary and tribunal hearings, workshops and panel discussions.
